Hi all,
I debated putting this on the health board, but figured this may be something mostt older people have, and the yioung crowd may not know what I'm talking about, and just say, what?
My mom has been having pain in her legs and feet. she thought it was coming from her knees, since she has arthritis in them, so she went to a walk in clinic here, and the young foreign doctor who saw her is guessing it may be neuropathy. I know next to nothing about it, just heard of it, so I did a google search on it, and found out there are ten types of neuropathy, which confused me, because i thoughtneuropathy was just neuropathy. I saved the neuropathy association home page, which seemed a bit more simple than some of the other sites i read. so was wondering if anyone here has it. thanks,

I would be willing to bet that a fair number of people on this site know about neuropathy, even if they themselves haven't had to deal with it yet. Neuropathy is very common in diabetics.
I have a touch of neuropathy but someone very close to me has a severe case of it. It has affected his legs, feet, hands, abdomin and intestinal tract, as well as starting to affect his esophagus.
I did not, however, realize that there were 10 different types of neuropathy. And, I, by the way, am 39 and the person I mentioned above is 45.
oh wow, jello-jigler, you're younger than i am and you have it? oh my! well, the other types didn't fit what mom is experiencing, and just didn't fit period, because her doctor told her she didn't have diabetes, and some of the other causes are hiv, aids, or chemotheraphy treatment, none of which she has. she has had the burning, but not the numbness and tingling, and it's in her feet and legs, not in her hands. from whatI've read, it sounds like polyneuropathy, not that i'm making a diagnosis, but it just seems to fit what she felt. she is on gabapentin now, and it seems to be helping. she sees a neurologist on the 20th of november. wonderwoman
Hi wonder. I have a sister who has fibromyalgia, but I don't think it's the same as neuoprathy. I think fibro deals with the connective tissues and the joints, and n deals with muscle atrophy. Is that right, or are they the same?
I think so, but i don't know much about fibromyalgia, just what they've been saying on tv, but that sounds right to me. I still think what mom has sounds like polyneuropathy, because it's in the feet and legs.
